QUICK LINKS:

REDUCE IN-PLACE CONCRETE COSTS

For most construction projects, the contractor’s unit price for ready-mixed concrete is only a small portion of the total in-place concrete cost.  A majority of the in-place costs include the equipment and labor required to:

  • load forms and equipment and get them to the job site
  • unload forms and equipment
  • construct/set forms for the project
  • construct/set reinforcement
  • perform QC protocols
  • transport and place the concrete
  • finish the concrete
  • cure and protect the concrete
  • remove/clean forms
  • load forms and equipment and get them back to the shop
  • unload forms and equipment and store at the shop for the next project.

Schmitz Ready Mix helps Southeastern Wisconsin construction professionals reduce in-place concrete costs in many ways.  Using advances in mix design technology, Schmitz Ready Mix performance mixes can help contractors reduce the amount of reinforcing steel, time, and labor required for project applications.

Timely delivery and one of the region’s largest front discharge ready-mix fleets minimize downtime for construction placing and finishing crews.  Ongoing driver training saves contractors time and money by eliminating the need for additional job site placement personnel to manage concrete chutes and direct the ready-mix driver.

Rigorous, daily internal QC measures by Schmitz Ready Mix – in the lab and in the field – ensure concrete meets project specifications.

Working closely with a strong network of manufacturers and distributors, Schmitz Ready Mix's Construction Supply Division constantly seeks out new technologies and improved products to help Southeastern Wisconsin Construction Professionals enhance quality, increase productivity, and/or reduce in-place concrete and masonry costs.

Supply Division Manager Todd Schulz and his team excel at helping Southeastern Wisconsin construction professionals adopt new concrete and masonry construction technologies. They are not strangers on a job site, having the first-hand knowledge and experience necessary to provide practical advice on the use of Supply Division products.

Explore the links below for solid ideas for reducing your in-place concrete costs:

  • Insulating Concrete Forms (ICFs) – labor savings come in many ways for these stay-in-place forms, including job site delivery and minimal construction waste.  ICF technology is the most cost-effective way to form, insulate, and stud a structural wall.
  • Admixtures -– added to performance mixes to improve quality and enhance placement and finishing characteristics, admixtures help contractors reduce in-place concrete costs.
  • Fibermesh® – added to the mix at the ready-mix plant, Fibermesh® provides a secondary reinforcement system requiring no fabricating or forming.  Purchasing, storage, and transportation costs are eliminated, labor costs are lowered, and yard and job site liability is reduced.
  • Steel or Blended Fiber Reinforcement - added to the mix at the ready-mix plant, steel and blended fiber reinforcement eliminate purchasing, storage, transportation and job site fabrication; save construction time; speed up concrete placement schedules, and reduce the time needed to place the project in service.
  • Grout – In concert with the architect, engineer, or general contractor, admixtures are often added by Schmitz Ready Mix to grout mixes to accelerate set in cold weather and improve fluidity without impacting, segregation, bleed water issues, or the mix water/cement ratio.
  • Flowable Fill – Requiring no on-site storage, minimal labor and placement equipment, narrower trenches, and less inspection that traditional backfill methods, flowable fill reduces in-place costs across the board.
