QUICK LINKS:

IMPROVE PROJECT QUALITY & JOBSITE SAFETY

Incorporating advances in concrete mix design and providing improved products and placement and finishing technologies, Schmitz Ready Mix helps contractors enhance quality and improve job site safety.

Quality Control Manager Jason Libka, Sales Manager Hal Janke, and Supply Division Manager Todd Schulz excel at helping Southeastern Wisconsin construction professionals adopt new concrete and masonry construction technologies. They are not strangers on a job site and have first-hand knowledge and experience necessary to provide practical advice on the use of performance mixes, new construction products and equipment, and material placement technologies.

Explore the links below for solid ideas for improving project quality and job site safety:

  • Admixtures – Schmitz Ready Mix's material knowledge and mix proportioning excellence allows it to use admixtures optimize project mixes for consistent, predictable performance.  Schmitz Ready Mix partners with contractors and specifiers to meet project requirements for concrete placement and finishing, ensuring the right concrete mix is designed, delivered, and installed.  Schmitz Ready Mix Performance Concretes provide improved project quality, predictable job site performance, and innovative solutions for constructability issues and efficiency.
  • Fibermesh® – Added to the mix at the ready-mix plant with other mix ingredients, millions of FIBERMESH® virgin polypropylene fibers are distributed uniformly throughout the concrete mix.  After concrete placement, as micro-cracks begin to develop in the concrete due to water loss and shrinkage, the micro-cracks intersect with the FIBERMESH® fibers, which block their growth allowing the concrete to develop its optimum long-term integrity.  Because no fabricating or forming is required to establish a secondary reinforcement system, workers avoid the cuts and scrapes associated with installing wire mesh and back injuries are minimized.
  • Flowable Fill – Workers can place flowable fill in a trench without entering the trench, reducing their exposure to possible cave-ins. Flowable fill does not form voids during placement, and won't settle or rut under loading.  In contrast, soil or granular fill, if not consolidated properly, may settle after a pavement patch is placed and form cracks or dips in the road.
  • Steel or Blended Fiber Reinforcement - Added to the mix at the ready-mix plant, the uniform distribution of steel and blended fibers throughout the mix transforms concrete into a more ductile composite material, increasing the energy absorption capability of slabs or pavements.  Steel and blended fibers provide superior crack control; improved impact, fatigue, and flexural strengths; enhanced toughness; and maximum load stability where it is needed most, around slab and pavement joints. Because no fabricating or forming is required to establish a steel or blended fiber reinforcement system, workers avoid the cuts and scrapes and bending associated with installing welded steel wire and reinforcing bar, and back injuries are minimized.
  • Insulating Concrete Forms (ICFs) – ICF blocks and panels are lightweight.  The forms go up faster and with fewer safety concerns as compared to other concrete wall systems. The insulating forms stay in place, creating ideal curing conditions for the concrete. Combining the thermal mass of concrete and the insulation value of the high-density polystyrene forms creates airtight construction that uses 25-40% less energy than stick frame structures.
