In 1949, cousins Harvey Schmitz and Nickolas Schmitz founded the Schmitz Ready Mix Company. Schmitz Ready Mix began as a small, family-owned and operated business, producing ready mixed concrete in Port Washington, Wisconsin. Harvey and Nickolas established a reputation of quality workmanship and reliable service.
In 1953 a second plant was added in Mequon, Wisconsin. When Nickolas unexpectedly passed away in 1972, Harvey took over sole ownership of the entire company.
In 1988, Harvey’s oldest son, Alan Schmitz, purchased the company from his father. Continuing the family tradition, Al grew Schmitz Ready Mix operations by opening 5 additional Plants in Richfield, Franklin, Grafton, New Berlin and Milwaukee. The red and gray Schmitz mixer trucks could now be seen throughout all of southeastern Wisconsin, with over 50 Trucks servicing the greater Milwaukee area.
In 2013 Alan retired as president of Schmitz Ready Mix, Inc. Upon his retirement, his son, Matthew Schmitz, took over as president of the company. Today, the third generation of the Schmitz family heads up the operations, continuing to grow the company with new locations, additional trucks, and expanded services. Schmitz Ready Mix currently operates a fleet of over 75 front mixer trucks.
